Scaling advanced analytics to continuously improve customer experience of media products
Intro to the customer
DPG Media stands as a leading media conglomerate, boasting popular brands in newspapers & magazines such as Het Laatste Nieuws, De Morgen, and Humo, along with a strong presence in radio & television with QMusic and VTM.
The company's commitment to innovation is evident through investments in mobile and digital products, exemplified by HLN Mobile and VTM GO—a Flemish Netflix equivalent.
Challenge
With the goal of continuous improvement in mind, DPG Media faced the challenge of scaling advanced analytics across its vast operations. The need to harmonize processes, migrate to the cloud, and manage a plethora of data sources while ensuring data governance posed significant hurdles.
Solution
Dataminded, in partnership with DPG Media, implemented a comprehensive solution to address the challenges. This involved the maintenance of a central data platform, leveraging open-source technologies such as Scala, Python, Airflow, EKS Kubernetes, Kafka, and more—all hosted on the AWS cloud. The approach included harmonizing processes, cloud migration, deploying a managed cloud-native data engineering platform, and establishing a central data repository for enhanced data discovery, governance, and sharing.
